If you’re planning a family trip to Berlin, I highly recommend visiting Zoo Berlin and Aquarium Berlin. Trust me, it’s a must-do for animal lovers and curious kids alike.

With our stays at the 25-hour Hotel Bikini Berlin, we lucked out with a room that overlooked the zoo – it was literally right behind the hotel. So, needless to say, we had no choice but to visit. And boy, are we glad we did.
The best part? You can buy a combination ticket for both the Zoo and Aquarium. And if you have little ones under the age of 4, they go for free! It’s a win-win if you ask me.

Now, let’s talk about the zoo. Did you know that it’s the oldest zoo in Germany? But don’t let that fool you – it’s as modern as they come. The animal enclosures are spacious and well-kept, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.

My boys were immediately drawn to the lions, but the hippos stole the show for us. They’re usually hiding, but we lucked out and got to see them up close and personal. It was an unforgettable experience.

And let’s not forget about Aquarium Berlin. It’s definitely worth a visit. There are three floors of marine life to explore, and I must admit, I found the jellyfish incredibly mesmerizing.

Here are some top tips for visiting Zoo Berlin and Aquarium Berlin with your family:
- Wear comfortable shoes: You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure everyone is wearing comfortable shoes.
- Bring snacks and water: There are plenty of food options available, but it’s always a good idea to bring some snacks and water for the little ones.
- Plan your route: The zoo is massive, so it’s a good idea to plan your route ahead of time to make sure you don’t miss any of your faves.
- Take advantage of the feeding times: Check the schedule for feeding times and plan your visit around them. It’s a great opportunity to see the animals up close and learn more about them.
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing: The majority of the zoo is outdoors, and when it rains it pours; make sure your little ones are wrapped up warm and kept dry to keep the tantrums to a minimum. We kept the boys’ rainwear in their back-packs and popped it on once it started raining.
Overall, our family had an amazing time at Zoo Berlin and Aquarium Berlin. It’s definitely a highlight of our trip to Berlin, and I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
