Today we visited Legoland Windsor for the first time as a family for Avery’s 2nd birthday. It was also the first day the Theme Park re-opened following the COVID pandemic. I have been once when I was much younger, it was Ade and the boys first time. Legoland’s hashtag is #BuildingMemories, and I can honestly say we did. I didn’t even get to take as many photos as I’d like because I was too busy living the moment, and I had a low battery, to be quite honest.

This theme park is designed for young children between the ages of 3 and 12. From the colours, to the figurines, to the different parts of the parks and the rides- the list goes on.

We arrived at 10.30 am, the park opens at 10 am. We found FREE parking very quickly in the overflow. The walk was a couple of minutes to the queue. The queue in plain view appeared long but moved rather fast. Everyone who is over the age of three is subject to a non-invasive temperature test before you can go in, to reduce the spread of COVID. Usual bag checks are carried out, tickets checked, and then you’re in. Quite quick and straightforward, all in all, it took 15 mins to get into the park. Once in, the crowds were pretty moderate.

As expected, the park operates on a one-way system. Social distancing is in place across the whole park, and everyone was rather sensible considering you’re dealing with families with young children. There is also social distancing in place on rides, in the theatre, and dinning (i.e., rows left empty in-front and behind or significant gaps on either side).

On some rides, those aged six and over are required to wear a face mask/ covering. Disposable and reusable face masks are sold in the shop; however, I’d say just bring your own if you already have one. We saw rides being sanitised in-between each turn. This causes a delay but not drastically, especially as the number of entrants into the park has been massively reduced.

We downloaded the Legoland app in advance of our arrival so we could plan our day. I think it is great that you can add all the profiles of those who are visiting, e.g., attendant’s height and age. This will then let you know which rides you can go on and which rides require adult supervision. We were able to make an informed decision as to whether we still wanted to visit based on what was closed for maintenance, what was closed due to COVID and what Avery would be able to go on considering height and age restrictions. Avery is 86 cm, just shy of the preferred 90cm, which grants you access to most rides. What’s funny is that on some rides, he was considered 90 cm, and on others, he wasn’t…I’m guessing he grew while we were there [*sigh*]!

To be honest, Avery is an explorer, and like always, he ultimately led the way, so it didn’t bother us that he wouldn’t get to go on all the rides. We didn’t even get to go on all the rides that he was tall enough or old enough to get on – that is how much exploring we did.

Today was simply amazing to be perfectly honest- it was geared to Avery, and we loved that. Our favorite part of the park had to be the Miniland, even as an adult, you’ll be amazed. You get to see incredible model scenes from Europe, the USA, and around the world featuring LEGO bricks! It was so cool to see London landmarks, including Canary Wharf, The London Eye and Buckingham Palace, and so much more. Avery also loved the DUPLO Playtown, a beautiful and neat village for interactive play. If we did something different we would stay over for a night in one of the two resort hotels and benefit from the two-day park visit- even though the park is geared to 3 – 12 years old’s there is just soooooooo much to do and enjoy and it didn’t matter one bit that Avery just turned 2!
